Live from Barrett Jackson

Greetings from the largest classic car auction in Arizona (and maybe in the United States).  For those of you who are interested in cars, the Speed Channel (check your local listings for times and your cable provider if you can get the channel) is carrying the auction live every day.  As we speak a 1962 Corvette Custom just sold at auction for 357,500 dollars (that was not a typo).  These cars are beautiful on television, but up close even a non-car guy like myself can appreciate the beauty and work that went into restoring these cars.  But the prices that these cars command are crazy high.  It's hard to believe that the economy is hurting after watching the money changing hands.  It must be nice to have a couple hundred thousand dollars to plop down on a car that most of the time sits in a garage looking pretty. Personally, if I'm spending money on a car, I'm going to be driving it...(but then again, I am not a car guy and that's why I work the auction and don't participate).

At least this year my brain is not being turned to soup by having to listen to 12 hours of auctioning.   Last year I was in the auction tent or surrounding tents every day and it's impossible to get away from the sound.  This year I only have to visit the tents on occasion and I can leave when the annoyance factor increases to critical level.  It makes for a much more tolerable experience...  I just totalled up my hours for the week (Saturday to Friday) and its (drum roll, please) 102 hours and I still have Saturday and Sunday to go... I told you when it rains it pours.  We have a little slow stretch coming at the convention center so I will be able to rest up a little before my next big event at the Waste Management Phoenix Open which runs February 1 through February 5 for the "other" company.  Then I hope to get a few days in Virginia to see my sister's family and then come back for the Tucson golf tournament at the end of February.  Busy as a bee but loving it!
