The wedding I worked on Saturday was a nice affair held at Inspirador in downtown Chandler... (downtown has a quaint little "Main Street USA" feel to it with small shops and parks and restaurants, city hall, etc.). I got there at 4:30 and checked in with the client and was stationed at the door as a greeter and to make sure no one walked out with alcohol...(not allowed outside the venue). The client told me they were expecting 300 guests but by the time the reception got rolling, there were well over that number (my guess is around 500!). It was a Mexican wedding and they had the Mariachi band and a DJ and they catered it themselves with the children helping as servers... I figured the gig would last 4-5 hours but I didn't get out of there until midnight. There was a huge wedding party and the music and dancing lasted until they turned the lights up for last call (around 11:30). Everyone cooperated and there were no incidents...(quite a few inebriated guests, but there were plenty of designated drivers---good thing since the police station was down the street). We had a walk through by the police... (no problems). And I didn't have to wear the the uniform...(black dress shirt, black pants and black shoes). A pretty easy gig and I now know the head guy who schedules overnight gigs (different department than the regular scheduler), so I may get some overnight work.
Super Sunday was spent doing domestic chores and watching the Super Bowl... (I donated to the Super Bowl Pool this year, unlike last year when I took home some serious cash). I was going to go out and watch but my chair was comfortable and my food was delicious and I was scheduled to work on Monday at 8am in Scottsdale (horse show again). So I stayed home and watched the Saints beat the Colts (too bad Peyton!). Nice walking off without congratulating the winners. Nice 11 fans showing up to greet the team coming back to Indianapolis (up from the 5 that greeted them when they WON the Super Bowl!). I guess the Hoosier state is a basketball state...(nice job, Colt fans). So I get up Monday morning and fight traffic and get to Scottsdale on time and they tell me sorry but the gig was canceled... (how about a phone call!). Supposedly I will be paid 4 hours because they didn't notify me, but I'll believe it when I see it.
Monday night I hosted an event at the Macaroni Grill in Scottsdale and it was good... (more than half of the people who signed up showed up and that's a victory in my book). The food was good, the conversation was good, the smothered chocolate cake for dessert was EXCELLENT...(caused a sneezing attack but I ate through it) and all seemed to have a good time. I may have a golf lesson student from the event also. I gave her my number so we'll see if she uses it. She's originally from Scotland and lived not from from St. Andrew's (the birthplace of golf). So even if I don't get to give her lessons I will try to get some local knowledge for when I go to Scotland... (God willing in the next two years). Tuesday night was my first "host" meeting with the new coordinator and March's calendar looks packed with events. Wednesday I hosted volleyball in Glendale and today I am very, very sore... (I never learn--but nothing serious).
